Open Data Can be the Basis for an Virtual Denmark In Minecraft

Since the US government opened its troves of public data we've seen some pretty neat projects like climate-change prediction tools and deforestation-monitoring systems. Denmark is, on the contrary hand, has taken a different approach: the Danish Geodata Agency used internally developed topographic maps and elevation models to create an exact replica of the most happiest nation within Minecraft's tiny limits. Unlike the virtual Great Britain we've seen before, this digitally rendered Denmark is much more than natural features such as forests and hills. Ars Technica discovered that it also contains exact copies of highways and landmarks. The project was designed to show the open-data initiative of the country's students and educators. However, anyone can visit the site until the Danish government's game servers shut down in October. Server rules, however have been able to disable enemies and TNT -there are no Creeps allowed Naturally. MINECRAFT
